Decriminalize Weed Now

We Need to Decriminalize Weed Now

As a candidate for Congress in Georgia's 13th Congressional District, I staunchly advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana in our state. The evidence is clear: criminalizing marijuana serves no legitimate purpose other than perpetuating unjust disparities in our criminal justice system. With 25 other states having already legalized marijuana in some form, Georgia stands at the cusp of a transformative opportunity to enact policies that prioritize justice and equity. By continuing to criminalize marijuana, we only perpetuate a cycle of injustice that disproportionately affects Black and Brown citizens, tearing families apart and perpetuating systemic inequities. I am committed to bringing about meaningful change, and that starts with calling on President Biden to take decisive action by removing marijuana from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act immediately.

Decriminalizing marijuana is not just a matter of progressive policy; it's a matter of moral imperative and common sense. In a nation that prides itself on liberty and justice for all, it is unconscionable to maintain laws that disproportionately target marginalized communities. By removing the criminal stigma associated with marijuana use, we can redirect resources towards addressing more pressing issues, such as combating violent crime and advancing public health initiatives. It's time to prioritize compassion, fairness, and evidence-based policymaking. As a candidate for Congress, I am committed to advocating for the decriminalization of marijuana in Georgia, ensuring that our laws reflect our values of equity, justice, and opportunity for all.

The Case for Supporting a Ceasefire Between Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza

The ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza has captured the world's attention, drawing widespread concern and condemnation. As the violence escalates, claiming innocent lives and perpetuating suffering on both sides, the urgent need for a ceasefire becomes increasingly evident. It is imperative that we, as Americans, rally behind efforts to bring an end to the bloodshed and pave the way for sustainable peace.

First and foremost, supporting a ceasefire is a moral imperative rooted in the fundamental value of human life. The indiscriminate attacks and counterattacks in Gaza have resulted in a staggering loss of civilian Palestinian lives, including women, children, and the elderly. Every casualty represents a tragedy that deepens the cycle of violence and perpetuates the cycle of suffering for generations to come. By advocating for a ceasefire, we affirm our commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of their nationality or ethnicity.

Furthermore, a ceasefire is essential for fostering stability and security in the region. The cycle of violence in Gaza exacerbates tensions, fuels extremism, and undermines prospects for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A cessation of hostilities would create an opportunity for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, address root causes of the conflict, and pursue a negotiated settlement based on the principles of justice, equality, and mutual recognition. Without a ceasefire, the prospects for lasting peace will remain elusive, leaving both Israelis and Palestinians trapped in a cycle of despair and destruction.

Moreover, supporting a ceasefire aligns with America's values and interests as a global leader and advocate for peace and stability. The United States has a long-standing commitment to promoting peace and security in the Middle East and has a vested interest in preventing further escalation of the conflict. By endorsing efforts to halt the violence in Gaza, we reaffirm our role as a responsible member of the international community and demonstrate our commitment to upholding international law, human rights, and the principles of justice and equality.

It is also important to recognize that a ceasefire is not merely a cessation of hostilities but a crucial step towards addressing the underlying grievances and injustices that fuel the conflict. It provides an opportunity for humanitarian assistance to reach those in need, for civilians to rebuild their lives, and for dialogue and reconciliation to take root. By supporting a ceasefire, we signal our commitment to addressing the root causes of the conflict, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Israeli occupation, and the lack of a viable political solution.

The case for supporting a ceasefire between Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza is compelling and urgent. It is a moral imperative, a prerequisite for stability and security, and a reflection of America's values and interests. As Americans, we have a responsibility to speak out against violence and injustice and to advocate for peace and reconciliation. By standing in solidarity with those who seek an end to the bloodshed, we can help pave the way for a brighter and more hopeful future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

I'm In: Why I am running for Congress

My fellow citizens, I am honored to stand before you today as a candidate for Congress because I believe our district deserves better representation that truly resonates with the challenges and aspirations of our district.

Representative David Scott has done an admirable job for Georgia's 13th Congressional District over the past two decades, but it is now time for him to move on.  Too many establishment Democrats have held on to their seats so long that they are increasingly out of touch with the daily realities faced by their constituents, and it is no different for our families in the 13th Congressional District. Our district, like the rest of the country, is under threat by Republicans who are maniacally focused on destroying our democracy. Yet, too many Democrats are unwilling or unable to take the fight to Republicans on behalf of the American people.  I represent a new generation of Democrats who are not solely focused on going along to get along, or collecting checks from corporate lobbyists. Over the past year, I've been actively engaging and listening to your concerns. I understand the struggles of our small businesses, the worries of our working families, and the dreams of our youth.

I am running because I firmly believe it's time for a fresh perspective that champions inclusivity, responsiveness, and genuine representation. My commitment is not to special interests or outdated ideologies but to the voices and needs of every individual in our district.  Please join me in my journey to change our country for the better.
